Generating Points from CAD

Software example

One of the issues you may be faced with is generating points from CAD, which are required to form a model.  This may be part of an exercise to generate volumes for a proposed construction site, given the design of a proposed housing estate or simply to agree on muck shift figures with a third party.  This is not a simple exercise and some time will be required to extract the information, that normally arrives in either DWG or DXF file format.

If you are lucky this will already be in 3D so the process will be simplified, but it’s more likely that the information provided will be in 2D.  We will look at how to deal efficiently with coding and converting 2D drawings into 3D using height text.
